This seems like a problem that could be solved by stationing additional NATO aircraft in Poland to cover the gap. Anyone who attacks Poland would be dealing with NATO airpower anyway.

Seems like the number of potentially available MiG-29s is getting pretty limited.

Has there been any new info on the Mirage 2000 offer?

Surely the US could work something out to get Poland F-35s?

The problem is the gap, the gap can be solved a number of ways. One could be the US or other NATO allies station X number of jets in Poland until the F35s are delivered.

Or, if those MIGs are in Ukraine keeping Russian jets distracted, there are less jets to threaten Poland.

It’s likely politics from Poland to get something from the US, like more favorable delivery terms/timetables for their replacement jets. It would be win/win for Poland and Ukraine 😀

“maintaining Poland’s own defense capabilities remains the top priority. “Our Ukrainian partners must understand this,” Kosyniak-Kamysz stressed.”

😀 pathetic. Poland is defenceless with or without these

    6. Sweden should send mercenary crew/pilots with it’s planes to get people to buy them. Not just planes but full packages and supply trains.

Poland should do what Slovakia did after we handed our MIG-29s and have it’s neighbors patrol the skies. The problem is that Poland is 8x bigger, borders both Russia and Belarus and is actually one of the countries that currently protect Slovak sky.

One thing about European politics is that the given reason for a thing is usually not the real reason.

I still say the US should send as many A-10s as they can as well. Easy to learn and easier upkeep.

There were several responses like this one from different countries about similar military support and transfers.

Its all bullshit. Poland is in NATO, nobody is going to attack it, and even if someone did they wont use those old MIGs for defense.

Same goes for any other NATO country that claimed “oh no we have to keep our own defense capabilities so… “.

You are all in NATO. It is NATO that will defend any of you in case anyone attacks you. That old soviet tech wont make any difference to you. But it would help Ukraine – because they actually need to defend themselves and dont have anything better in enough numbers because US drip feeds f16s and it all takes way to fucking long!

      >As of 2011 the Polish Air Force has three squadrons of F-16s: two stationed at the 31st Tactical Air Base near Poznań and the 10th Tactical Squadron at the 32nd Air Base near Łask.

      the real reason is this:

      > On 8 March 2022, the Polish government offered to transfer its entire MiG-29 fleet to the US government via Ramstein Air Base as lethal aid to the Ukrainian air force against the ongoing Russian invasion in return for aircraft of corresponding operational capabilities (most likely F-16s). The exchange was eventually not carried out.[28]
