“I think that by 2030 there will be 29 member countries, with Montenegro joining in 2028 and Albania in 2030, as I have seen with my own eyes how ambitious these two countries are in this process”, said Edtshtadler.

    2. With the current levels of corruption and drug trafficking I don’t see that happening.

I wouldnt mind but first we need to change the way voting works in EU. Singular countries cannot block everything like Hungary currently does.

This wouldn’t do anything other than increase the EU’s corruption indexes and lower its average GDP per capita

As a fellow non-EU Western Balkan-er, I really don’t see any EU expansion in near future. They only way to keep this region from not joining Russia/China is to have a “EU Light” membership. Aka having trade and work benefits, but not EU voting and veto rights.

Albania’s membership bid *was* tied to North Macedonia’s, but NM is being a silly muggins about it and Albania will be waiting *forever* if it has to wait on NM.

My main concern is the question of how likely it might be for Albania to become another Hungary who sabotages the EU from inside. Mostly because I hardly ever hear anything about Albanian politics and so their “Kremlin Factor” is unknown to me.

turkey is still on their mind despite what they want you to believe

    9. I do hope it means that Austria will support the EU reforms needed to expand the capacity to admit new members.

Is this for real or is it meant to start a conflict in regard to Moldova’s and Ukraine’s admission to EU?

By an Austrian chief diplomat, don’t you mean Günther?

    12. They just need Russia to attack them and they’ll join in 2025. Would also win Eurovision too.
