      It’s missing the introduction of vapes. As far as I know, vapes are, orat least were treated like other smoking cessation products by the NHS. And unlike North America, where government treat vaping as if it’s smoking and impose the same limitations on vaping as smoking, the UK has taken a sane approach that does not discourage the use of vapes, making it easier for smokers to switch to a far safer option.

      at some point in the 80s there must have been the exact same number of smokers and quitters

      What surprises me is that it seems an the laws didn’t really impact the decline in progress, I’d had thought it would have gone down loads with banning indoor smoking

      Wait, 80% of the 16+ population either are or were smokers?

      That’s more than I thought.

      I feel like cigerettes should have been banned a long time ago but of course the maker of those would not like that very much
