      ***The Telegraph reports:***

The Olympic rings adorning the Eiffel Tower for the Games will become a permanent fixture of [France’s most famous monument](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/destinations/europe/france/paris/top-of-the-eiffel-tower-100-times-what-to-know-paris/), the mayor of Paris announced.

Anne Hidalgo said Paris had fallen in love with [the Olympics](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/paralympic-sport/2024/08/29/paris-paralympics-2024-schedule-boccia-swimming-athletics/) and “I want the two to remain married”.

She announced the current rings will first be taken down as they are deemed too heavy, and will be replaced with lighter versions.

[The city](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/paris/) must also come up with a way to conceal the rings when the Eiffel Tower pays special tribute to causes that are not in line with the Olympic Committee’s strict policy on neutrality.

Referring to how “the French fell in love with Paris again” with the [success of the Games](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/olympics/), Ms Hidalgo said: “Paris will never be the same again.”

I was like that with the Christmas decorations I managed to put on the eaves of my roof.

This should provide a nice transition into selling ad space on the Eiffel Tower as well while we’re at it. /s

      > Forever

In other words: until she gets voted out.

      > forever

Clearly there’s been a translation error, what they meant to say is: “until yet another protest happens”

    6. I hope the next mayor will remove them as soon as he or she enter in fonction.

It’s like leaving christmas decorations on for the whole year.

0 self awareness. The whole point is that the Olympic games are hosted in different places. Paris is not the capital of the Olympic games

    10. Live_Angle4621 on

Maybe if this had been the first Olympics there. Not now

The Eiffel was temporary but at least it was made for Paris by Paris to showcase Paris, and so weird looking it developed its own charm.

The Olympics Rings are not really any of that

    12. Various_Abrocoma_431 on

The Olympic rings are a brand… Hang a FIFA logo up there with em while you’re at it. Coca cola sign? Yeahwhy not at this point.

I wonder how Paris will like giving money to the Olympic Organisation for the use of its trademarked intellectual property?

    14. Soectronis on

I give them 3 months until: Ah mais sérieux, les anneaux olympiques encore là ? On a gagné quoi, le prix du kitsch éternel ? Oh là là!!!

I guarantee the afterglow will wear off and it will be just an olympic monument in the Tuileries Gardens.

It was a great event and the Paralympics are still on, so it’s still very soon, but I can’t really see the Parisians wanting the IOC’s corporate logo stuck up on a national monument for all eternity.

That being said, the tower itself is a remnant of the 1889 Paris Exposition, that was once referred to as the skeleton of a lampshade.

    15. futureboredom on

Every event that happens in Paris should do the same then. All full of shitty logos hanging and stuff. Eiffel Tower would look like a fridge full of magnets, or like a person with many earings and jewelry.

      She mad

    16. What about all the people who couldn’t give the tiniest shit about the Olympics?

    17. Crackarites on

I think that’s cool. The tower looked great with them while I was there and Paris is the home of the modern Olympics imo. I also wish they kept the balloon

    18. JerevStormchaser on

Well there goes weeks of goodwill built up towards frenchs and Paris lmao

Christ, what an ego trip. No wonder Hidalgo doesn’t seem to be very popular.
