Presumably the reason this is being posted is to give people context for the scary things they hear about murders by Islamist nutjobs, and I fully agree that we can’t let fear of these people derange the entire political landscape, but I also think we can’t just pretend there’s no problem, or acting like racism is the only reason people can be concerned about this stuff (not saying you’re doing this OP, but in some circles this is definitely a trend).

Yes, the total number of murders is low, but that’s not actually the concern people have. What people are concerned about is importing a fast growing subculture which may be currently small, but is also insular and wildly over-represented percentage-wise in things like violent crimes, harassment of women, etc.

Germany has its own problems with native-born, ethnically German right-wing extremists that absolutely are a bigger problem than Islamists, but on the other hand, the government recognizes that those people are a problem and uses things like the education system to try and reduce the amount of people who grow up as right wing extremists. This includes some pretty extreme measures. E.g. it is actually illegal to homeschool your children in Germany without special permission from the government, and I believe the reason they do this is to make sure that children properly learn about the holocaust.

Immigration is good for Germany and should be encouraged, but if immigration is going to be a major way that new German citizens are made, then the immigration system is going to have to take on similar responsibilities that the education takes on, including the duty of protecting society from extremists operating on a totally different ethical and moral landscape with totally different information standards, and we need to be realistic about this.

We can’t let the far right be the only people who are acknowledging that there is actually a problem, otherwise more and more people will end up falling into the far-right orbit just because they feel like they’re being lied to by everyone else.

It’s been brought to my attention that my use of the word “Islamist” may be confusing. I’m not using this word to refer to muslims in general, or people from the middle east or anything like that. [An Islamist is someone who is pushing for the political and social dominance of the religion of Islam in a society.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamism) This is not all muslims (not even a majority) and certainly not all middle easterners or whatever. It *is* however, a broad set of ideological goals held by some people immigrating to Germany, and it is something I think that immigration policy needs to be mindful of.

Do they count executions and stabings towards murder ?

I’d like to see these figures in person capita, because Germany’s population went from 82 million in 2000 to 80 million in 2012 and 83 million today.

And now imagine where we could be if the downward trend continued instead of flatlining or outright reversing even.

More people die falling down stairs than from terrorism a year. Doesn’t mean we shouldnt face the problems but shows there is clearly an agenda to spread fear and lies
