      “Was meant to” in the British English sense, that is to say, “ought to have.”

      Not in the American English sense, that is to say, “was expected to but didn’t.” Nobody actually expected Mongolia to arrest Putin and they didn’t promise anyone that they would.

      Aside from, you know. Their treaty obligations… which is going to be a bit sticky.

      Best case scenario, Mongolia will sign all kinds of trade deals and other agreements… And then arrests Putlet just before he leaves.

      I’m betting on the first option.

      Good. Another example of treaties not being worth the paper they’re written on.

      You can’t really blame them when they are literally stuck between the two major autocratic nations of the world, almost wholly reliant on imports from them, and could be actively turned into a modern version of 1939 Poland by active partition of their nation between them if they tried to capture either one’s head of state.

      I’m sorry, but regardless of reason we have to accept the Realpolitik in this instance.

      I AM NOT an Orc sympathiser, but I don’t want to see another nation turned to slag by those bastards when we would not be willing to support their efforts if they followed through against a leader with such a massive power dynamic over them.

      He will NEVER go anywhere that the West can readily support to make the arrest, mark my words.

      Ulaanbaatar is in dire need of a natural gas pipeline from Russia, their heating needs are met by just burning coal in homes in winter which has disastrous health consequences for the local populace. It might not be the answer people want to hear but they’re just trying to take care of their own people.
