Questi sono i miei antenati, provenivano dalla Galizia, Ucraina. Mia nonna ucraina non ha mai parlato delle origini della sua famiglia (tuttavia mi ha trasmesso l’amore per la cucina ucraina!), quindi non so quasi nulla e ho solo queste foto per scoprirne di più. So che i modelli di abbigliamento tradizionale e la loro collocazione variano in tutta l’Ucraina e ho qualche difficoltà a trovare le origini esatte dei miei antenati.
Se sai qualcosa sugli abiti storici/tradizionali ucraini, ti sarei estremamente grato per il tuo aiuto!

Nice photos. My family is from the same region and moved to Manitoba. What can you find in the Canadian database? There actually pretty decent for census data.
By the way, do you know your ancestors surname? If it’s not very common it is possible to find an approximate location where they could have came from. There’s a website on which you can see on the map where any Ukrainian surname is common [ridni.org](https://ridni.org/karta/). Not guaranteed to work but it worth a try
I am not a specialist but those clothes look to me more Hungarian rather than Ukrainian, so I would say it’s Trans-Carpathia
I would start with the ethnography museum in Lviv. If you’re lucky they’ve published a guide about traditional clothing, or you can show your pictures to somebody there.

The Ukrainian Museum in Manhattan might be able to help.
I think one of the keys is the pattern of the belt that she is wearing #3 photo. The dress is a “modern” fabric of the day but the belt pattern is very old belongs to her village. There are databases of these patterns you can search in local ethnographic museums.

I’m looking at these photos and thinking how much this f*cking soviet union and russia especially took away from Ukrainians. They had family treasures, houses, land, beautiful clothes, jewellery… And were tortured and robbed for years in multiple genocides.
And now it goes on.
