I don’t know if you’re looking online or locally. If it’s the former, just search for “Nähgarn”. If it’s the latter, you’ll find it in all sorts of stores, including some supermarkets and drug stores. Googling “Nähbedarf [your city]” should get you more specialized stores.

Specialized fabric shops, supermarkets, Woolworth, possibly Müller if you have one.

You mean twine? I would check Müller or DM or Rossman (or any other Drogerie) for it.

Search for Shops with ‘Kurzwaren’ or ‘Garne’. You’ll get multible hits and Shops where You can buy single Spools (about 1 to 3 €)

If you need a specific color, you’ll want a “Stoffgeschäft”. If you have an store called Idee where you are, they also have a selection of sewing notions. Online you could try Butinette, it’s a large hobby/crafts store. If you only need black or white you might find it in a larger grocery store (Edeka, Rewe, Kaufland). ETA: It’s called Nähgarn in German.

Just look for one of those vietnamese taylors, often called “Änderungsschneiderei” ask for the specific color you need. They often use noname, cheap, imported stuff, but they know wich one works! They are also a good source for needles. Never ever buy those multicolored cheap sets. They will only cause discomfort while sewing. Source: BTDT

Search for “Kurzwaren” which means all sorts of sewing-related articles. Bigger supermarkets, depertment stores (if your area still has them), specialized shops (Kurzwarengeschäfte), bigger drugstores should have a variety of colours.

Buttinette, a sewing store, or your local department store. Karstadt usually has a pretty well-stocked sewing section. There are also lots of sewing stores that carry variable sizes of selection, depending on the store. If they don’t carry a color you need, some will order it for you without additional shipping cost.

This has to be one of the dumbest posts I’ve seen in this sub. How do you manage to move to a foreign country but not know how to Google the German word for thread and where to find it. Sheesh.

Müller or rossmann. They have a big choice.

Rossmann carries a wide variety of sewing thread colours, Müller has higher quality products and an even wider selection of more than just regular polyester thread. And every larger city will have small shops selling yarn and thread and fabrics etc. Just search on google maps vor ‚Woll laden‘. Alternatively ask at any random Asian or Turkish tailor if they can sell you some. Not the Getman tailors with the insane prices and stuck up owners.
Oh and Kaufland, Rewe and large Edekas also have ‚Kurzwaren‘, at Edeka it‘ll be on a random head of one of the aisles usually.
MäcGeiz, and Tedi and Woolworth also vary really shitty quality.
If you just need regular sewing thread; go to the closest medium sized Edeka or to Rossmann.
And inline you can buy from hobbii or even Amazon.

Threads are available in any larger Müller / DM / Rossman drug store, as well as “Kurzwaren” stores (Karstadt / Kaufhof / Wollworths / …). In many cities, there are sometimes still stores that sell sewing machines (Nähmaschine), and they’ll have sewing supplies as well.

If you want to buy in a brick&mortar shop:
– Most supermarkets and drug stores have a small selection (I personally wouldn’t try that, unless you are really indifferent about brands and only want something basic like white or black)
– Karstadt and similar department stores carry larger selections
– Art supply stores such as Idee also carry a wide varity of colours and types
– Fabric stores, if you really need a lot of choice between length, type and colours
If you want to buy online: Search for Nähgarn, Nähzubehör and Kurzwaren. Thats the german words under which you would find this. There are a bunch of online fabric stores that also carry a wide range of thread. My personal favorite for that is [stoffe.de](http://stoffe.de) because they have everything in every colour under the sun.

Generic thread on these kinds of spools is cheap as fuck and will constantly break.
By single spools of Güterman or some other brand name at any fabric store.
