      >Writing on his own Telegram channel, Durov said it was “surprising” to learn he could be held responsible for other people’s illegal activities on the platform.

What a dishonest speech, the real arrest reason is responsible for refusing to provide information about who is doing illegal activities.

Nahh, government at least sometimes should operate by common sense and go for instigator.

People when they have to face the consequences of their own (in)action:

      *surprised pikachu face*

Looking at the comments here hope that EU passes Chat Control after all you don’t deserve more.

He is not wrong. When a big corp gets caught doing something atrocious it’s common practice to slap the legal entity with a small fine usually less than the profit from the malpractice itself.
The only way to deter the bad faith behavior is to go after the executives themselves.

He’s not fully wrong. They never arrested Mark Zuckerberg for all the child porn or drug dealing done on Facebook or WhatsApp?

We’ve seen an US election openly swayed due to facebooks influence and he was never arrested

    7. Durov is Russian asset. There is a reason why telegram allows nazi pro war channels, why all Russian officials use telegram, why even Russian military communicates through telegram. Why Russia “failed” to ban telegram for a show, while other countries easily banned it. Why Durov “fled” Russia yet visited it many times later, and didn’t fall out of the window. Why Ukrainian military doesn’t use telegram, and ban of telegram is considered currently in Ukraine.

Was he as surprised when Kremlin allegedly bailed him out of failed crypto business?

Sadly, in democracy, the state needs absolute control of media to ensure that no one has incorrect thoughts. It’s the only way to have free and fair elections that always arrive at the predetermined outcome.

Almost disgusting how self-righteous the comments here are. A government is arresting someone because his company does not want to give access to private chats held on their platform. You literally want to have people listening in on your conversations, I cannot believe it.

Sorry Durov, the EU is going to implement Chat Control one way or the other – both surveillance and censorship. It’s not personal, it’s just business.
