Estonia I’m willing to help and buy something of yours :D, but you don’t export much…

Let’s boost Estonia by traveling to their country!

Denmark is surprising, you don’t hear a lot about their economy in the global news, if at all. Yet here they are, growing the most by far of the traditional “old” economies.

But please don’t tell me this is all because Ozempic 😡

Anyone know why Finland is struggling so much in particular?

I’m aware of the basic macro economic trends hitting Europe (Covid/lockdown lag effect, aging population, war in Ukraine and global economic slowdown reducing export demand) but why is Finland stagnant when pretty much everywhere else in Europe is growing?

GDP is pointless metric. It doesn’t tell anything about well-being, happiness or economic health. Focusing just on GDP growth can be detrimental to society, because it’s possible to make various decisions that will improve GDP, but these decisions will make people unhappy as result.

I get that Ireland isn’t includedd in the EU measure because leprechaun economics, but at least show the datapoint so we can all see just how bad it is

I though the Baltic tiger was Estonia and Lithuania was somewhat the looser? things have changed apparently.

I am also surprised of Croatia, every time I have a conversation with a Croatian he tells me how the economy is bad and things are so expensive. 18% Real GDP growth in 5 years is quite an achievement.

Remember the times when Estonia was considered the poster child of the Baltic states? I’m curious why Lithuania and Latvia aren’t far from each other in terms of economic development compared to Estonia.

You’ve included countries that aren’t even in the EU,but some that are inside weren’t even mentioned. Peak journalism!

A polish friend of mine once told me they had a saying back home, “Not even the recession works in Poland” – this was under the financial crisis.

Still relevant today, I can see.

    11. Croat here:

We reached a point where you can have an average EU salary … But let’s say you have to work 50 hours week for it.

During corona we kind of avoided total lockdown during summer, basically the number of tourists remained more or less the same.

A lot of Croats also work around northern Europe so the money they keep in Croatian banks makes the situation look better than it actually is.

We also avoided developing any kind of serious trade with ruzzistan on purpose. Hungary, Serbia are now in deep shit because their “booming” economy depended on cheap energy from ruzzia. So when the shit finally hit the fan we basically didn’t even feel it because as I said we considered ruzzians to be assholes long before 2022 and avoided trading with them. Same as the rest of central/eastern/northern/southeastern Europe we knew that mama Merkel is making a massive mistake. But hey Germany knows better than literally 20 other countries telling them for 2 decades to cool down their bromance with Vlad.🤷

Prices also went up a bit after we switched to Euro 2 years ago. So that pumped up the GDP artificially a bit.

Also most of companies got their heads out of their ass and finally switched to focusing on export because domestic market is simply too small.
