      Man, this sucks! I sometimes send some cash to a [Swedish volunteer](https://www.youtube.com/@SWEOD) who is demining areas away from the front line; he also provides training and demining kits to active combat units.

      We are with you Ukraine! I hope you win back all of your country as soon as possible and that we can figure out a good way to make Russia pay for what they have done.

      Since Geneva convention prohibits using POWs for demining operations, it still could be great use for domestic traitors and collaborators.

      On the plus side they’ll probably just sit there for a few years and then we’ll have ai robots to do the job.

      Not wanting to sound too sceptical here. But what the hell does a bank know about de-mining?

      When this war comes to an end, the new Russian military (under new leadership) will be doing EOD removal duties in Ukraine free of charge to Ukraine as part of their reparations.
      Meantime it makes for a great training ground for the rest of the worlds EOD teams to come help out.

      35.000.000.000. That’s 100.000 people paid 50.000 a year for 7 years. I don’t doubt there’s a lot of mines out there, but it still seems a bit much.

      Imagine, all this money could have been saved if Ukraine got enouqh equipment in time to kick russians out before they did all these warcrimes.

      It might make him think twice about invading someone else assuming he survives this one.

      That’s going to be a nasty task. There are still mined areas in the former Yugoslavia.

      Even in Germany, there are still forests that can’t be extinguished by fire because of munitions from the Second World War.

      Knowing nothing about nothing, but knowing the world bank is as corrupt as the IOC, how do we just flat out trust this number, and not know they are planting *mines* to steal money they will be lending or financing somehow.

      I just find this sus.

      Just take some of those Russian pows and have them do it since they like executing surrendering soldiers.

      Once the fighting ends, I expect there’ll be a fairly large NATO demining mission established.  Before GWOT, and even into it, US Army combat engineers would regularly deploy worldwide for humanitarian demining missions.  It was so common, it was regularly suggested as a “break” from the typical optempo when I was a junior officer.  

      Because demining a mine field is therapeutic compared to route clearance.

      Ukraine is coming up with a lot of creative ways to clear mines on open ground but the real threat is the ones that are laid in streams and forests and parks and places where kids or adults might walk or play.
