Thank god none of these involve taking Wilno back.

Poland will surpass Germany soon in gdp per capita

I disagree Poland has already escaped the middle income trap. It’s just that multinationals are willing to compromise higher wages for same working hours, high quality of delivered services and good English proficiency. But as the costs rise and other nations, including some EU states, start offering the same at a cheaper price, things may change. I think we have wasted the decades of growth by not specialising in any high-tech manufacturing or service end-to-end process and we are stuck without a growth driver.

Maybe building the central airport hub? Oh shoot, Tusk basically scrapped that entire project.
And it’s been nearly a year and the building of Polish nuclear plants and the deepwater container terminal in Świnoujście are in jeopardy by the current government.

As a German this is great! I see no reason why another EU and NATO member shouldn’t succeed!

I agree with some parts more than others.
**Demographic context:** Poland has slight but persistent negative net migration. A very low fertility rate. A demographic bulge in the 30-50 cohort. That bulge means a lot. 40 is mid-career and very productive. A golden moment with lots of workers, supporting few children and elderly.
Now is the time, demographically.
**Military industry:** Yes. Poland will likely grow here.
**Banking/finance:** IDK.. Conventional company banking has rarely played a decisive role in industrial development in recent generations.
**Importing Entrepreneurship -** This is a good idea… but the hows are difficult. Every EU country has discussed this… but most found that going from talk to policy is another exercise in “not getting it.”
**Be Asian -** possible wildcard. Western europe represents extreme conservatism regarding planning, building and such. Most will never found a new city. Being radically different in this regard would be a differentiator.

Is it really? It feels severely lagging behind Germany with no way to catch up. Working in IT in PL earns like a car mechanic wage in DE.

With previous and current governments I’m afraid we’re on the downhill to banana republic status rather than development.
