      One of the interesting things about this war is you get to see perspectives from all levels. Soldiers in trenches all the way to the generals.

      However, guys lower down the chain always think everything is shit and the officers have no idea what they are doing. Sometimes they are right but a lot of the time they just don’t know what’s going on broadly.

      Personal anecdote – my great Uncle was at the Bulge in WW2. He was in one of the 2nd tier reserve divisions ID on the flanks that got pretty beat up during the initial German penetration. Till the day he died he hated Eisenhower and blamed him for failing to anticipate the attack. He didn’t talk about the war much but was vocal about what a shit general Eisenhower was.
