What do we reckon, half in the funds they’ve been setting up and half to housing now?

    2. Yes, we can finally get white water rafting in the city center

    3. LucyVialli on

Everyone says we should put it into housing and that’s very important and we should of course use some for that, but what about our water pipes?

We’re still losing nearly 40% of treated water every day to leaks and corroded old pipes. There’s a plan in place to mitigate this but it’s only allocated about €250m a year, maybe we could ramp that up a bit?

As long as it’s not spent on some nonsensical vanity project, like the HS2 rail system in the UK. Did someone say Monorail, Monorail, Monorail…

A motorway for the Ring of Kerry.

High speed rail from Limerick to Leitrim.

Train multiple pods of Orcas to appear on demand.

      Housing, healthcare, infrastructure, etc.

But only if the money is being spent efficiently.

Which will never happen of course.

      >the Apple money would be directed towards infrastructure and investments

A solid gold road to the Apple campus in Cork.

I could do with a few quid.

We could actually conduct a comprehensive study into the existence of Leitrim.

Hmm careful investment or bung every man, woman and child 1000 and pocket the other 8 billion while people are distracted

I’ve a genuine question. When the case was ongoing, it was repeatedly stated that should Apple lose the case, Ireland would not be the sole recipient of the 14bn. Now it appears that we are, what has changed?

They will waste it. The intention might be good they will ultimately waste it all.

I’d love to know the actual mechanics of how we get the money. Does Apple ask for our IBAN? 🤣

This will be what decides how I’m voting next election, I want to see this money poured into infrastructure like the power grid and our roads/rail systems.

We badly need this investment so we can continue to grow and more importantly, so we can attract multinationals investment.

      Broadband everywhere

      Water and sewer system upgrades

Light rail for cork, limerick, waterford, galway etc

whatevers left can build the metro in dublin.

Imagine the amount of happy meals Jack Chambers can buy with that money? (Mallow News ref, I miss that amount).

    16. Looking forward to the inevitable future tribunals about how the money was misused šŸ˜–

If they’re smart and want to win votes, the money should be spent on:

      – The majority on Housing.

      – Healthcare, potentially a new hospital and improving how current hospitals operate. Pay off excess managers if needed and attract more doctors and nurses.

      – High speed train infrastructure connecting major cities, this would open up a lot of areas to work and live in different cities.

      – A new prison.

14bn worth of all for one vouchers to be handed over to Apple.

We need to get FabergĆ© Eggs to hang on the Christmas tree in the new children’s hospital and build at least 4 bicycle stands.

I can see two things happening with this:

      1. It being wasted on poorly thought out stuff (looking at you BAM)
      2. Cork, where Apple is based, being completely overlooked

    21. petermal67 on

Housing. Water pipes. Replace the HSE and build new hospitals. Build four new prisons. Anything else is nonsense.

This government shouldn’t be allowed to use the money that they tried to stop the state receiving.

    23. Any_Comparison_3716 on

It belongs to Cork. Apple is the one thing that has no connection to Dublin.

MagLev to replace the 220 and 220x.Ā
