Are there any nightclubs left ?
This should have been passed ten years ago when we were seeing dozens of stories about young people crowding emergency rooms due to acute alcohol poisoning. The prevailing opinion at that time seemed to be young people were horsing drink into them just before closing, with obvious outcomes.
So it seems ten years is the minimum we can expect to see government introducing legislation to deal with serious issues in this country.
Edit: Unless some lad gets plastered, takes a handful of mushies, then falls to his death from a rooftop. Mushies were banned the day after.
Do a bit of part-time in a local pub. Was working Sunday, busy most of the day, few stragglers left at closing time, called last orders bang on 11:00. Greated to a horrified “what?” from a few of the older customers, “jaysus, you won’t be finishing at this hour when the new hours come in”.

Some poeple seem to have it in their head that pubs are going to be open all bloody night 🤣🤣
I don’t think this will have the impact that people expect. Outside of Dublin I doubt many nightclubs will do this regularly. I doubt it would be profitable for a lot of them. And staffing would be a big issue. Wouldn’t be surprised if insurers charge higher premiums as well.
Most places will probably just extend their hours to 3am not 6. And then if there’s some big event maybye open later.
It will be like 5 places in whole country
Impossible to get people to work till midnight let alone after

What could they possibly be? It takes a certain amount of time for a unit of alcohol to leave your system, no changes in legislation is going to change that. No doubt it’ll be something stupid like no shots or spirits after 02:30 or something else equally silly.

Highly convenient, very obviously just trying to get young votes.
I really do hate our politicians.
It was meant to be in before the summer and those tourists are right, Irish nightlife is very, very disappointing, in fact it is dour. I read once about the expense and the effort Copper faced jacks used to go for a daily licence to extend the opening hours. And I was shocked about how profitable it was. There is a massive appetite for a better social life in Ireland, this is just one step in many that is needed.
Example of over legislation. Why opening hours need to be regulated at all?
Would have been a great move in 2004.
This idea was first floated in late 2019 in the lead up to the 2020 general election. FG are obviously trying to appeal to younger voters with this but the message voters should take from this is that FG have been unable to deliver on this in the last 5 years.
