We have this in Bavaria, Austria, Switzerland a lot, too
I love it because it shows that Locals feel enough trust for each other to lay out their goods unprotected in the open. Sadly, that’s not possible everywhere
Same in Western Germany. You take vegetables, milk, eggs, or bread and put the money in a box called the „honesty box.“
