Ah here, could they not shell out for some GOOD speed cameras?

I was driving (well, being driven) around Scotland there in the summer and they had the average speed yokes everywhere.
I would hope that as these become more common we see less of the “better do 20 under just in case” type behaviour you sometimes get on the M7. I’ve even seen people do the sudden breaking type behaviour, which doesn’t even make sense for an average speed camera…

Can we not just scan the drivers brain to get what their actual intentions are and then fine accordingly ?

Can someone explain to me how these actually work? Because if its average speed does that not mean you could absolutely floor it for a bit and then just go slow for a while and it’d balance out and you’d be okay?
I don’t understand the logic here.

If anyone is familiar with that stretch of road in Mayo, they know it’s not speed that’s causing accidents. Too many times I’ve been cruising at 100kph on that road and an auld wan in a Nissan Micra swings out onto the main road without evening looking. There’s three or four busy side roads there in one stretch, people take chances, and accidents happen.

They have them on the Limerick to Dublin motorway

A few red light cameras and we could pay for at least 1 children’s hospital with integrated bike shed and security hut in every county.

Couldn’t they buy some they know are good?

Title is misleading. Cavan isn’t in Mayo

No need for them in Cavan. You just need to put up signs saying speeding reduces engine efficiency so you’ll have to spend more on fuel and the problem will take care of itself

Good

Anyone know if the cameras point both ways? Looks like they’re angled onto the road with the rear pointing away. No reg on the front of motorbikes.
