Do the Russians actually want a second round with Finland, and this time, are they alone?
Finland drank too much vodka, mines are one of the most dangerous weapons to civilians, decades after war ended.
This is again a great initiative from finland, when the world changes, also democracies must be able to react.
Membership in.international agreements should always be up for debate when necessary – not seen as immutable truths.
Finland did the mistake of not cleaning out the leftists right away after fall of USSR. And they have paid a heavy for it…
As someone once said: “Those who oppose landmines will never have a fear ending up on the front line.”
Funny how all the people going on about treaties are suddenly cheering on withdrawing from this treaty as if it doesn’t automatically mean lots of worse actors will start withdrawing too and seeding anti-personnel landmines everywhere.
I think it works though in protecting territory, and is probably the least confrontational way to protect territorial integrity in this area.
