It’s obviously an immense tragedy and the driver deserves significant blame legally and morally for what happened particularly for the attempted deception in the aftermath but I’m not sure how I feel about the victim impact statement here.

Am I right in saying the passenger was drinking all day with the driver, presumably equally as drunk as the driver and it was a “joint enterprise” so to speak to decide to drive across down in a drunken stupor? The deceased wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the car as a result leading to her death. Some very bad decisions.

Seems there are some major lessons which could be learned here which have been lost in the aftermath because of the criminal culpability of the driver and the fact the passenger died. So many (most?) drink-driving multiple fatalities happen because of this type of behaviour and it should be highlighted.
