This advertisement is also misleading. Most people think they donate here to keep Wikipedia alive. However the wikimedia foundation behind wikipedia has already collected enough donations over the last few years to keep wikipedia running for multiple decades (!) to come. Therefore, these donations primarily go into other projects.

The beauty of open source is that you can download and self host Wikipedia on your own computer, it’s even <1 TB. If something happens to it, it will be rehosted within hours (possibly by some malicious parties, but that’s why you need a local copy).

Have you recently migrated to Germany/other high-income countries? Usually, countries in development with low GDP per capitas dont see this message. Its however shown about twice a year for IPs in the developed world
