Honestly, good for that dude being open-minded and able to listen. I think people underestimate how many people with his position just don’t understand the perspective that destiny outlined. Of course many people are just plain stupid, but many are misguided.
This was part of a longer discussion between streamer Destiny, and a Trump supporter arguing the narrative that “Ukraine should just hurry up and make peace so the dying stops.”
The livestream audience was .. enthusiastic about how clearly and profoundly Destiny broke down why Ukraine fights from a more informed American point of view.
Later in the conversation the Trump supporter became so angry at realizing how Russia was treating Ukraine that he wanted to proceed straight to nukes, but was quickly shut down.
Destiny may be emo raging in debates, but he is a cool guy in real life. hehe
The guy summed it up perfectly how we feel in eastern Europe.
Romania always dreamed about being in the West and never wanted to be a Russian satelite. Not since 1989, but way before. The (forced) post soviet states do not want to go back.
Remember russia doesnt have rule of law it has the whims of a king as the basis of its enforcement policy. The cops etc can ultimately do what they want, throw people out of windows for no legal reason, put people in jail indefinitely on trumped up charges etc. Just shooting suspected saboteurs in the dombas.
You say stop the dying, the dying doesnt stop when the war stops for the people subjugated by russia. You just condemn millions of people to a world of a totalitarian police state, controlled by the whims of one man. What is america but against that? Didnt you die for exactly this reason 250 years ago…ukraine is just America’s younger brother here this is our war of independence
He’s not a Trump supporter, the dudes a far leftist that parrots Russian talking points. But yeah, Destiny fucking nailed it with this one. Such a good clip.
The guy he is talking to is not a Trump supporter. Just one of those “anti war” tankie adjacent people. He also didn’t really change the guys mind. He still held onto his original position after this interaction.
It’s not a Western take, it’s a lazy non-history aware western take. Nobody in the US today would say: “Well, we should have made peace with Britain and not fight the war of independence because it’s horrible when people die.”.
Why is it so crazy hard for them to imagine that Ukrainians don’t want to live under Russia’s boot just like Americans didn’t want to live under Britain’s boot?
Destiny took the time to explain things very well. A balanced view is all that’s needed.

I only understood the absolutely deep hate my grandpa from Latvia always had for Russia / Russians after what started happening in 2022 to Ukraine, because it’s literally the same thing he went through. They even abducted his sister to „adoption“ in Russia (was later rescued). They seem to never change.
This was a very good description of the point of view he had as well.
