Great, another small country that seeks EU money
Election result today will be interesting!
They’d be nuts to join the EU with how important fishing is to them.
Why do they want to join tbh? Any Icelanders who want to tldr the national debate for us redditors?
Honestly, if your country is doing fine relatively to the EU, the best is to do what Norway, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Iceland are doing.
Get into Schengen/Free trade and avoid the EU regulations.
My understanding is that Iceland’s sticking point is that they don’t want to share their fishing grounds and adhere to the CFP (same reason Greenland has exited the EU, despite being politically under Danish sovereignty).
Has the fishing industry become less important or has public opinion changed with regards to the CFP?
Get them into EU. I would love Icelandic Euro coins

This might be a stupid question but what would they be gaining by joining the EU besides having access to Euros ?
