It’s a Boda lock, don’t know the model, might be 312. Common in buildings from the 50’s to early 80’s or so. As a nice bonus the thing is riveted so you can’t even open it to clean or grease.

They haven’t been made for 40 years now

    2. Some older toilet doors have just one handle on the inside which is turned upwards to lock the door. I think that this lock is meant to be used with two single sided handles. The outside handle would be attached to the upper position and the inside handle to the lower position.

If you turn the lower handle downwards will the locking bolt retract?

Thats called old as hell lock. You might find some options here: [https://www.domusclassica.fi/ovet-ja-ikkunat/ovenpainikkeet-saranat-ja-heloitus/lukot-ja-varaosat/c/1207/](https://www.domusclassica.fi/ovet-ja-ikkunat/ovenpainikkeet-saranat-ja-heloitus/lukot-ja-varaosat/c/1207/) or here: https://www.helakauppa.com/helakauppa-verkkokauppa/lukot.html. I used phrase perinnelukko (traditional lock) to find these links.

If you are renting, that’s basically on your landlord to fix it. How ever, there’s no actual law that requires it to be replaced. At the same time I wouldn’t replace it by your self just like that either without asking is this okay.

If it’s your own home, do what ever you like.

Usually that lock only has a handle on the top for outside and the bottom for inside, the other holes are plated or aren’t visible. Inside you turn the handle upwards to lock it and the outside handle will not be able to open it. Clearly here there’s been drilled two holes for handles which is generally newer standard. Helakauppa would be able to help you
