I remember watching Michael Palin’s “Pole to Pole”. He travelled through Russia and Ukraine in 1991 just before the Soviet coup attempt. He interviewed a young Ukrainian man on the train who talked about UkrainIan independence, that one day his country will be free. By the time Palin arrived in Turkey, Gorbachev’s face was already in newspapers. He got it sooner than he had thought, and now under danger again…
