Number 1 is only for pre-soak, so in general you only need to use number 2. Also you are probably using too much detergent so it doesn’t get completely washed into. Switching to liquid detergents will also help.

I assume the problem is that you are using powder detergent and the blue flap flips down when you’re closing the drawer – which is only supposed to be there when you’re using liquid detergent.

On the left you see a button labeled “push”. Push it and pull out the drawer – this would be a good time to clean it. Then fold the blue flap all the way back, and put the drawer back in.

… basically normal. Well. Kind of. Here’s what you should try:
The little container on the left is marked I from what I can tell. Only put detergent in there if you are running a program with “Vorwäsche” (pre-wash cycle). If you do not know what this is and when to use it, don’t worry about it. For now, leave this one empty.

The one in the middle is used for the “Hauptwäschegang” and is basically always filled, unless you are only planning to clean your machine.

My gut feeling says you are putting way too much detergent and it looks like you are using a liquid detergent, instead of a powder? If so, switch to the latter. But if you still have some of the forbidden soup left, you should be putting it directly into the machine – not in the tray.

However, no matter what you do: this thing will get dirty eventually. Take it out every now and then and clean it. Rinsing it under hot water will be good enough in most cases.

Looks like you’re putting too much washing powder in. Also, the powder should only go in the middle section unless you’re running a program with a pre-wash cycle – look for the part with a “II” – that’s the main wash. The “I” is pre-wash and the flower is fabric softener.

The plumber who installed my washing machine said that most of the time, the washing liquids are better than the powders.
