Some in th west may view it as a proxy war, but the ones being invaded it’s a fight for survival. They don’t care about what we want from the war.
I absolutely love how a lot of “ex-…” are saying correct things, but when they were in power they did nothing.
Two people wearing hats are walking along the street.

The third person proceeds to draw a knife and jumps one of the hat wearing people.
As they’re struggling, the other hat wearing person throws a knuckle duster to his friend, hoping that will help him in the fight.
In that way, it really is a “proxy war”.
But when the common moron says it’s a proxy war, he means to say that the western powers started the fight. That Putin had no other choice than to attack, that he was somehow provoked. You’ve likely had this conversation with the common moron and you wish you didn’t. Whatever the case may be, you’ve certainly heard the expression “proxy war” by now and you’re allergic to it. I think Boris here is intentionally using it, knowing it makes for a catchy headline.
It’s scary when even Boris Johnson sounds so reasonable. Hope the war will end soon!
Not everyone in his own country liked him, but I really like Boris Johnson. Ukrainians liked him so much they named a cake after him.

People don’t seem to realize Ukraine is fighting for all of Europe. If Putin succeeds, what makes you think Russia’s appetite stops with Ukraine? Hah!

I would care a bit more about what Johnson is saying, if he wouldn’t have supported Brexit, which was one of the biggest strategic wins for Russia in recent history (together with getting Trump elected twice).

6 months ago you would have been called a russian troll for calling this a proxy war. Now johnson comes out and says it, and reddit is full people claiming its obvious and he’s actually very sensible for saying it.
He knew it was a proxy war all along. He doesn’t actually care about ukraine, he only cares about hurting putin for his own end and he will sacrifice any amount of ukrainans to do so.

In terms of realism Mearsheimer proposed it is not the West’s duty to help Ukraine. That is a liberal stance they’re trying to imbue in others. Ofc, what Putin’s doing is horrible and Ukrainians have every right to defend themselves, but I wonder if Merarsheimer is right and West in fact is hugely to blame for Ukraine’s misfortune. Maybe they can’t beat Russia afterall. So all this leads to a frozen conflict probs. Putin has to do this in order to stay in power and survive the struggle. I don’t understand how Western media think he’s suddenly gonna give up. So what’s the solution, give Ukraine more weapons? Where does that lead us to?

The west would lose a proxy war against North Korea. They send tanks and guns, we send thoughts and prayers and discuss which parts of Estonia or Poland can be given up for peace.

What was Johnson doing when Ukraine was invaded in 2014? Oh yeh, slipping his security detail so he could party with Russian oligarchs in Italy.

The opposite is not the case ( they view it as a total war: sabotage, hybrid operations, propaganda, espionage, assassinations, etc ). They are just too weak to engage in direct conflict, yet.
