In the Irish Times article they said that the suspect had no record of applying for refugee status as a way of dispelling far right rumours. But I’m not sure that was a good idea. If he was Irish they surely would have just come out and said it. The wording they did use still implied he was an immigrant which is going to incense the far right just as much.
