Brussels is pissing into the wind again, even if it dies in it.

    2. Round_Mastodon8660 on

Good – there is absolutely no reason to delay this.

    3. Never ever. Until 2035 the EU will be solidly in far-right hands, which work closely with the gas and oil industry and Russia.

    4. Material-Spell-1201 on

Most likely by 2035 EV will be cheaper to run than combustion engine cars? the market is moving that way anyway

    5. Responsible-Ant-1494 on

Then they should vacate the seats for a parliament that will prolong it indefinitely *and* make the EV battle this fairly – no subsidy no nothing. Let the EV win it on equal footing not politically pushed.

    6. Electric cars are a mistake because they are still cars, we need better transportation systems to get rid of a maximum of those polluting space taking vehicules.

    7. NeoFascists will not only delay it. Suspend Green deal before it is too late!

We are in a hybrid war with Russia. We need strong economies to resist the assault.

Wow, europe just likes to dig bigger and bigger hole for herself every day.

Please remember, folks, it is a ban on the sale of NEW combustion engine vehicles. And it’s 11 years in the future, and it might be the most important signal to our industries, that they absolutely must transition, even for their own sakes in order to not be disrupted into oblivion by Chinese EV companies. Such a ban solves the innovation dilemma in a nice and clean way, it is just the best way how politics can steer the development of nations.

      Being honest…this ban is pointless.

EVs are just a better tech and will replace combustion engines naturally. If European manufacturers are too dumb to realize that…be it.

And discussing this pointless ban just gives few % to right winger’s in polls.

Great, looking forward to paying 200k€ for a vehicle .. ridiculous

It would be great to have the industry for processing the rare compounds/minerals and the rest and not being almost completely dependent on china in processing these. Or at least find reliable partners with low cost inputs(germany wth?) that are not the biggest polluters if u want to save the world.

And then sell the idea to less educated citizens too pls:)

    13. This is what Brussels is concerned about. Wake the hell up or there won’t be a European Union by 2035. War is coming and we’re messing around.

    14. Rough-Badger6435 on

Then don’t penalize europeans with electric car tariffs. At least let them acces reasonably priced electric cars not god damned 30000 euros BEVs. I’m all for not destroying the planet but I am not a fan of car companies. Let the most cheap and efficient win. Don’t protect your car corporate euro buddies Brussels. Australia has no tariffs on Chinese BEVs and has the biggest grid.

LE: I also know its a delicate decision as China has been caught so many times using slave labour in their secretive penal colonies. Dictatorship and technology theft is their secret sauce. TBH all choices are shitty but one at least is better for Europe.

    15. How can so many young European ( aren’t you the majority here) be so anti innovation. Why refuse to evolve, and this need to protect dinosaur industries?

    16. JPauler420 on

EU forces citizens to drive electric cars, Europeans are buying cheap Chinese Evs.
      Eu: no, not like that!

    17. edsonfreirefs on

For the people complaining about the prices of EVs, unless if you live in a small village, you know you can use the public transport, like busses and trains, right? Public transport works quite well in most Europe. For travelling to isolated places a few times duration vacation, one can rent a car, don’t need to buy one. It still surprises me seeing more people concerned to buy a car than the impacts caused by climate change.

    18. Familiar_Ad_8919 on

an issue theyre missing is that even if we get a competent government in 2026, itll take until 2035 just to undo the damages orbán has caused

its just gonna screw people over since they cant drive any more and public transport is rotten through

thats all assuming things will improve by 2035

    19. Here you have an car that charges from 10% to 80% in 10 minutes: [https://youtu.be/Jaik06bed0w?feature=shared](https://youtu.be/Jaik06bed0w?feature=shared)

Chinese are inovating like crazy, next year there will be cars that can charge in 7-8 minutes. Zeekr is under Geely who is also the owner of Volvo.
