La SNSPA notifica alla Corte Costituzionale l’annullamento del primo turno delle elezioni presidenziali e l’esclusione dalle urne di Călin Georgescu, il candidato che ha beneficiato di un “complotto”

SNSPA is notifying the Constitutional Court to suspend the second round of Sunday’s presidential elections, to remove Călin Georgescu from the ballots and to resume the first round of the presidential elections, declared rector Remus Pricopie, for Edupedu.ro. “My colleagues are working on notifying the Constitutional Court and I hope that within a maximum of an hour the CCR will be notified by SNSPA, but I believe that there will be others who will notify the CCR today,” Pricopie announced.

The SNSPA notification comes after the CSAT declassified documents from the secret services indicating that a “state entity” supported Călin Georgescu’s campaign.

UPDATE 1: Cristian Terheș, a candidate in the presidential elections, told G4Media on Thursday that he had filed a request with the CCR to review the validation of the first round of the elections. “After the appearance of the documents provided by the CSAT, there are new data, new documents, and in light of them I requested the CCR to review the decision by which my previous request to annul the presidential elections was rejected as unfounded.”

In a statement released this morning by the National School of Political and Administrative Studies (SNSPA), rector Pricopie accused that “the Russian Federation has staged a coup d’état, masked by apparently democratic mechanisms, but perfidiously manipulating the electoral process. Fortunately, it failed. Now, under these conditions, the CCR’s responsibility is immense: it must remove from the ballots the one who should have been the beneficiary of this plot, and the prosecutor’s office must expand the investigations.”

“If it is not decided today to at least suspend the process until the CCR’s legal clarification, it means that we accept that we are entering a second round with the contestants who emerged from a first round about which we have data today, following yesterday’s declassification , that it was deeply flawed. […] The suspension means that the process is interrupted for Sunday. I agree that the CCR cannot decide in an hour, but neither can it be indifferent to what it is happening. We still have the right to criticize in Romania: they rushed on Monday,” Pricopie declared.

I won’t pretend to know a lot about Romanian politics, but this seems extremely dangerous. Foreign influence or not, millions of people did vote for Georgescu, and the message really seems to be “democracy but only if you vote correctly”. Either way, it seems like this will make many voters way more bitter.
