It’s because there are less diversity in names in some circle than others. No, that doesn’t mean that the majority of babies who were born are from muslim families

We shouldn’t be racist or hateful. But we should be less tolerant towards people that do not want to integrate at any cost.

Those Muhammads will grow up in neighborhoods and schools where the natives are a minority and will have 0 of English culture, but talking about this in these times is being a Nazi so no one will put this problem on the table

What do you think when is bacon banned in England? By 2100?

    5. GrzegorzSwoboda on

Why are almost all Arabic people named “Muhammed” or “Muhammad”

    6. Past_War_1625 on

People don’t realize it’s not just migration—Muslims often name sons Muhammad after the Prophet, while Brits use way more diverse names.

Now that UK left EU it can join the Arab League

It’s been the no. 1 name for boys im various german cities for years…why? Because non muslime germans tend to give individual names to their kids while literally 90% of the Muslim boys are named Muhammed one way or the other…diversity seems not important to them

    9. Dont_Knowtrain on

Because most Muslim born boys get Muhammad as first name and their actual used name as second name

This is quite a pointless article that is an obvious attempt to stir things up.

There are four million Muslims out of the almost 70 million people in the UK. According to the yearly statistics, people who migrate from Muslim countries are generally a minority, and the fastest growing religion in the UK is no religion.

This is really just a case of low birth rates and Muslims having a much smaller pool of names. Almost every male Muslim I have met is called Muhammad.

Does this name make it more difficult to leave Islam if one does not want to believe in this/God in general? Or is it generally unimportant, since leaving Islam is virtually impossible even in the 21st century?

    12. Arabs name their kids the same thing that’s why it’s so popular, white people name their kids very differently and like original shit

    13. IceFireTerry on

It got to be annoying when you got like five people in a class and they’re all named Muhammad.

    14. AxeWoundSaxon on

This is BS, it’s been the most popular for yrs if you count the spelling variations.

I would have sworn I’ve read it was the most popular baby name for a few years now

    16. OnlyTwoThingsCertain on

Not a problem, most popular name in Saudi Arabia are now Matt, George and Jeff.

Everyone who is outraged by this doesn’t understand basic statistics.

If every Christian family would name their first child “Jesus” then that name would, by far, be the most popular name in the UK.

But I guess people just like falling for rage bait.

    18. MisterrTickle on

I think that the UK has had all variations of Muhammed being the number 1 since at least 2010. However there’s about 18 different ways to spell Muhammed using the Latin alphabet. This is just the first time that one particular spelling, rather than grouping all of the different spellings together has made it to number 1.

I see supposedly predominantly liberal reddit jumping to conclusions without anyone looking into it. Don’t get me wrong, neither have I, but I’ve seen one comment suggesting that it’s due to religion where many Islamic boys are simply given this as one of their names. I dunno, but I see it as completely plausible, so I’m not ready to jump to conclusions.

There are a lot of names, and there will always be variation but In my school with around 420 students there is 1 Muhamed, and out of 420ish students 390 are going to Muslim Theology, There are some Muslim names like Amir, Amar, Dino, Ajna, but Name Muhamed is not even in top 20 names given to children despite 50% of the population identifying as Muslims, Not long ago there was rumbling from the local Muslim Comunity about promoting Muslim names and they failed quite spectacular, Instead of choosing short and vocal names that fit our language they dig up ones that sound like you butchered alphabet. I guess that also has to do a lot with language, if a foreign name fits the language it will be more easily accepted but stuff like Mu-ha-(me-d) can’t fit in right because in the last syllable, d can’t stand alone it needs a vowel, but you can’t connect it with syllable before to form (med) since then it is again not ending nor beginning on a vowel which is one of the rules of our language. whilst shorter names like Dino or Amar (din-religion not dinosaur, unfortunately) can.

Catastrophic decline of European culture and identity. Diversity that caused less divesity. Bloody brilliant.
