      > Spotify has once again created a personalized list for each user featuring their most-played songs of the past year. For Glenn Cosyn from Bredene, this resulted in some truly astonishing statistics. In 2024, he listened to the same Elvis Presley song, If I Can Dream, a staggering 55,392 times.

      > Spotify Wrapped, now in its 10th year

      > The streaming service Spotify has produced its personalized annual musical roundup, Spotify Wrapped, for the 10th time. Through the app, users get an overview of the songs, artists, and podcasts they listened to the most over the year. For most people, the results are unsurprising—and for Glenn Cosyn, that’s especially true.

      > Glenn played his favorite song so much it’s practically worn out—though by now, it’s safe to say it’s completely “white-worn.” While Taylor Swift tops the global charts, Glenn was firmly devoted to If I Can Dream by Elvis Presley, playing it a jaw-dropping 55,392 times. To put that in perspective: Glenn listened to the song for more than 177,250 minutes—nearly 3,000 hours or about 8 hours a day.

      > The song helped with his recovery

      > “At the start of the year, I was recovering from a hip surgery, so I had plenty of time,” Glenn explains. “Music helped me through the tough times. Listening to Elvis kept me positive. Last year, I had already listened to the song nearly 5,000 times, and my friends challenged me to beat that record.”

      > “My goal was 10,000, but I lost track along the way. It ended up being five times as much, and I’m still not tired of the song. In fact, I listened to it a few more times just yesterday. My neighbors did complain a few times over the past year, so I switched to headphones. I actually went through two pairs of headphones just to keep listening to Elvis this year.”

      > A song with a message

      > If I Can Dream was released in 1968, just months after activist Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in Memphis. Elvis Presley drew inspiration from the legendary words of King’s “I Have a Dream” speech.

      > “The song is still relevant today. When you listen to it and think about everything going on in the world, you realize it carries a powerful message. It’s not a very well-known track, but I think it’s absolutely beautiful,” Glenn says.

      “Only 55 times, amateur… oh… that’s a point, not a comma… jesus christ” 😆

8 hours a day on average? I get sick of a song if I hear it five times in one day.
