Seems like they placed a massive weight on ticket price as “performing well” without taking purchasing power into much consideration.

I dare you to try the Hungarian or Romanian so-called ‘rail service’

It connects UK and France. My expectations have always been low.

Deutsche Bahn devastated, they tried everything and still got outcompeted

    5. Have they even *tried* looking east of Vienna?

One example: Zagreb-Split train. The distance is ~400km. Intercity bus takes ~5h. By car, it takes ~4 hours. Train? 7h in ideal conditions. Austro-Hungarian steam trains ran faster than that.

Gonna take a wild guess and say Croatia wasn’t in the scope of this campaign. XD

    7. Really? I just read a post saying that NS was lower. How can I believe this sub?

I can only assume that Scotrail was missed from this study?

Amazing what happens when there’s a lack of competition

So next time the reporters and researchers as well as europeans know what an actual worst of the worst looks like. Crimininal level performance, getting trains from europes junkyard, with greek taxpayer money, and with the blessing of the current government literally cementing evidence so it cant be found. THIS is what corruption looks like

I know there is a difference on what they are reporting but not even mentioning the criminality of that case is dangerous.

We need Europes Courts to shed light on that case

LMAO, I wish I had the “worst-performing” Western European trains instead of the ones in Greece, which last year collided with each other and killed 60 people because of non-existent safety measures.

From my experience, I have seen worse ones in Europe (GWR, TfW).

What about a ticket to ride southern italy’s trains? Unforgettable

The real news is Trenitalia performing as the best service in Europe

    15. WeakDoughnut8480 on

It’s because of Brexit and the extra checks. It’s made everything so much worse

    16. Don’t include which one is the best… usual anti Italian bias

Their methodology is a bit strange.

Not sure we can use this ranking for any purpose.

    18. Interesting angle as it actually takes ticket prices and refund policies into consideration. Which is probably why DB is better here.

Eurostar on the other hand – always 30% more expensive than flights, and their ticket reimbursement is a bit of a joke. If a train is cancelled, you can’t just rebook – you’ll have to pay the difference in ticket price if the chosen alternative is more expensive. It always is, of course, sometimes double. And they won’t pay out the difference if it’s cheaper. Instead you get a staggered rebate for your next purchase, based how long the delay was. Which is useless for people who take the train once or twice a year.

Overall, it’s still a better product than flights, and they know it. And you’re paying for it.

According to internet the channel tunnel can support about 1000 trains per day. Only 400 are using it.

This is just Eurostar maxing their profits, because with twice as many trains per day they couldn’t ask these ticket prices.

Romanian Rail Service: Am I a joke to you?

Spoiler: Yes, they are a joke to everybody.

Romanian CFR is absolutely devastated, nothing comes or leaves on time, trains are absolute bio-hazards ticking time bombs, and they are still above, half of Europe, I bet that the ppl that compiled this report never got onto a CFR train… lol
