Austria’s government suspended all ongoing asylum requests from Syrian nationals and will prepare a plan for orderly repatriations of refugees following the fall of President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
The Interior Ministry in Vienna said it needs to reevaluate the situation in Syria and will suspend processing of all applications for the time being, according to an emailed statement Monday.
“I have ordered the ministry to prepare a plan for orderly repatriations and deportations,” Interior Minister Gerhard Karner said.
The decision is the strongest European response so far to the toppling of Syria’s long-time ruler.

I doubt those who found a job will ever go back especially with families.

Always surprising to see how fast the gears of bureaucracy and politics can turn in the moments where absolutely nothing is clear yet, compared to how slowly they turned during the years of great certainty before that.

I am sure the life in Austria improve a lot immediately. Or… will the far-right just have to look for the next scapegoat?

That was fast…Assad didn’t even have time to unpack in Russia yet

And if the new power in Syria doesn’t cooperate ( nothing has been decided yet, transfer of power isn’t complete ), what will AT ( no NATO, no influence, no means to pressure Syria ), do then?
This is all of course, meant for internal consumption, doubt anything will happen. But the target demographic ( not syrian refugees ) will eat it up.
edit. From Euronews, 7300 applicants, this is what you’re getting worked up about. Joke that shouldn’t be in the EU ( this is only the lastest affront to the senses ).
