Canadian here. A friend of mine had this shipped to me for Christmas because I like to try new foods. I know it’s supposed to smell god awful when I open it but I’ve got some questions. I know it’s fermented and under pressure, but does the can normally bulge so much? Also there’s some rust on the can that has me concerned. Does this look safe to eat, and if so can you guys give me some recommendations on how to serve it?

With crisp bread, red onions, sliced potatoes and fresh dill. Make sure you open the can under water

Open it under water, it will probably spray otherwise. Eat it with boiled potatos, fine chopped red onions, crème fraiche, some dill.

Get a clean bucket or large bowl, Fill a bit with water, Put can underwater, Open can.

Now have a look if bones and guts are still in the fish and remove what you don’t want to eat. Have it with some potatoes and some sauce you like that hides the meh taste.

Think about why this meh fish that just tastes of salt and like something that has gone stale, Is somehow a traditional dish. Then you remember that people used to have limited ways of storing food, Feel bad whilst eating said meh fish, Feel lucky that we don’t have to eat meh food everyday anymore, Feel lucky we got food at all. Feel sorry for your ancestors.

Repeat next year, The wheel of suffering must spin.

You wont believe this, but connoisseurs states its best *after* the best before date.
Preferably one to to years old.

Open under water outside, when the wind direction is going towards the neighbour you hate.

I prefer to eat it on buttered soft flat bread with sliced potato’s, finely chopped red onion and sour creme.
