I’ve had my welfare payments reviewed 3 times this past year. First time was to make sure I still use electricity so I can keep receiving the Household Benefits Packages, the second and third time they wanted to make sure I still have Autism and other permanent disabilities so I can keep the Disability Allowance. They got more vicious and threatening each time. Nice to know that they can get away with “irregularities” while I’m being treated like a criminal.

Doesn’t actually seem that unreasonable that they were trying to prevent an exodus of staff when their operations were inundated.
Yes, proper process should have been followed but I imagine that the sheer length of time it takes to get anything approved in the public service was why they didn’t.

A few rude and disrespectful comments finally being removed. Thank you mod. I won’t share what some people said. Just remember to be nice, it’s harder online and particularly given Reddit’s anonymous nature of the commenters.

The excuse about the language barrier is pure bullshit. Every single Ukrainian presenting had an interpreter assigned. My wife was one of such. She spent at least a full year in our local offices every day and the horrendous laziness she saw from staff there was insane. Basically these people whined about having to actually work and got handed money for it. Typical civil service nonsense.

Friend worked in a social welfare branch and had a lad fresh out of Mountjoy come up to collect his “dole from the last 8 years”, turns out he cut someone open in a knife attack, nearly murder and walked out expecting back-payments because he was unemployed when sentenced.

I was never on the dole or stamps or anything like that so I never dealt with this department but we have taken in 110k Ukrainians.
If this department is the unofficial main port of call for these people and the department is handling that massive additional ask, then I think its fair enough that they get rewarded.

This is financial crime. They stole. They should be arrested.

The department gets extra shite thrown at it with zero additional resources to cope on the back of an ill-thought-out and sudden policy implemented by the government. Few grand is spooned out to individual offices to try and placate stressed out, overworked staff.
It’s not really Tubridy-level scandal, but let the predictable civil servant bashing begin sure.
