Just to note that if Israel closes the Irish embassy in Israel (which remains open), the EU would have to get involved which is why they most likely will not force to close it. It’s all a song and dance on their side.

Shame. I work in the area near the embassy and occasionally we got to go home early as it was expected protestors would run amuck. (Never happened).
Funny thing is i don’t believe they even have staff working there due to security concerns. Youd see two Israeli security guards (military?) outside in the morning talking to a garda but nothing else.
I do remember a lad on a microphone singing an anti-israeli rap and sticking his finger up at people in the office block looking down at him. They were from a letting agency rather than the embassy which is on the top floor. Good times. You get some grandfather’s for justice protesting time to time but thats dropped off too.
I reckon their lease is up and the floor of the building isnt used so why bother keeping it.

Israel is a rogue state. They invade their neighbours whenever they see an opportunity, slaughter innocents, refuse to abide by or acknowledge international law and spit in the face of diplomacy. Good riddance. Ireland needs to push the EU to stop tolerating Israel

I read a propaganda article they wrote in one of their local newspapers about Ireland. All of it was based off kids calling a Jewish boy a slur. They wrote 3 thousand words on this and in the article made it seem that every Jew in the country was targeted and abused by the state. Thing was they didn’t interview anyone in the school about it. All they had was a Jewish kids word on it. Even the most basic journalistic investigation would of interviewed the school or even other Jewish families to see is this a common thing.
Should have closed it in 2010 when Mossad used our passports…
Ireland is in a unique position in that it is an EU country, a country that suffered from colonialism and occupation, as well as an English speaking country that has a very huge diaspora (particularly in the states) and good relations with the USA.
Ireland’s defence of these values is a direct threat to Israel. I know we love to bash Ireland sometimes but it is a country that punches way above its weight diplomatically and is shaping EU foreign policy where the Germans have (due to their past) failed miserably. The Israelis are simply doing what they do best here, which is label anyone who critiques them as an extremist. To be clear, Ireland has in-fact done nothing other than stand by EU and international law throughout this whole issue. The problem isn’t that Ireland is extreme on Israel, it’s that much of the EU doesn’t hold Israel to the same standards we hold ourselves or other aggressors.
I am not a lawyer, or an expert on EU Law. I would hope that if Israel starts to single out Irish citizens and punish them when they travel to or through Israel that the EU has a mechanism to support Ireland. Israel already gets away with restricting the movement of EU citizens with Palestinian heritage or EU citizens who have critiqued Israel and the EU has been mostly silent on the subject, despite the fact that the Americans pushed the Israelis to make exceptions to Americans of Palestinian backgrounds.
Good, fuck off. Come back when you stop indiscriminately killing people.
“Burn everything Irish except their passports” is the catch-cry of the day in Israel.
I’m actually surprised the comments on the article aren’t nearly as extreme as I was expecting. A few are ranting and raving, but you’d expect that, but it’s hardly a pile on.
The reality of this is it’s not going to make a blind bit of difference other than to reduce their own soft power.
The current Israeli government is a *seven* party, cobbled together coalition that barely got over the line after a prolonged political crisis and includes parties that would be by most definitions be considered far right nationalists, but are on tiny %
The war is largely Netanyahu‘s way of prolonging his stay in power.
Hopefully by sometime in 2025 things change and a more sane coalition emerges, but it’s as likely as it is unlikely.
They have a PR list democracy but it’s probably the most extremely fractured system of its type. It’s has something like 40 parties contesting elections and at least 14 actually landing seats.
It’s utter insanity that people think they can’t criticise the policy of an unstable government beholden to a couple of far right parties and individuals.
Honestly it’s an insult to both Irish and Israeli people’s intelligence to keep hammering that line and it’s certainly not doing anything to create a stable situation. It’s just driving an utterly vicious war that’s sowing decades of future instability and horrors.
This whole thing is down to a generation of utterly spineless centrist (mostly centre right) parties in Europe, who won’t diplomatically stand up for fundamental rights and also an utterly spineless Democratic Party in the US that’s lost any credibility as a progressive voice at all. They haven’t stood up. They just stay silent.
If the you don’t stand for what you claim to hold as fundamental principles: charters of human rights, international law on prevention of crimes against humanity, and so many other things, your status diminishes. You become nothing but a transactional hypocrite. That’s what most of Europe and most of the US is now and that’s the signal this sends to regimes all over the world – it doesn’t matter. These lofty notions are just that —meaningless bullshit that’s applied only when it suits. It’s particularly galling to see the EU do this. It’s a peace project at its core, built out of the ashes of horrors that occurred on this continent, yet it seems to have lost the moral compass, and just turns away in an awkward silence.
Also, yes we do hold Israel to higher standards. The ones it claims to hold itself. It claims to be a developed, progressive democracy and wants a place on the international stage and to be respected. It is a member of a lot of global, and even European organisations. As such much higher standards apply —as they should. It’s not some crackpot dictatorship, one party authoritarian state or anything like that. You can’t just behave like a despotic regime in a conflict and be expected not to be held to those high standards that you claim to be part of.
It’s no wonder so many people are jaded with politics these days.
Are we supposed to care. They have a pure narcissistic mentality. Commits genocide and when they get criticised they throw the toys out of the pram. I’m sure most Israeli people are fine but their government and their mouthpieces are pure scum. Murdering scum.
They are still moaning today.
