It wasn’t easy, I have to say. We all had to chip in, as a country, as a nation. I still remember the days of the referendum when everyone went to vote for the name of the song. It could’ve easily been any of the other options like “iubirea prin salcâmi”, “amorul pe sub nuci”. We had a hard time also picking the famous line Maia-hi, Maia-ha, .. Initially it was supposed to be Mariah-hi, Mariah-ha, .. but luckily in the clip for the song Numai tu, O-Zone hinted that in the distant future we’ll have a president called Maia so the choice was obvious. O-Zone always knew, we were too blind to see.

It’s been many years now, generations have passed, the country forgot its former glory, but every now and then you can still hear an old man or a woman walking down a dark alley singing quietly “Alo, salut, sunt eu..”

Anytime! It’s so popular in our country, we even elected our president based on it.
