Meh. I’m not too worried about this. Depends on the neighbourhood.
Luckily in Finland, the seller is responsible from the package until the customer receives the package. The receiver is in no contractual relationship with the courier company. Tough luck for the seller, if I dont receive the package at all.
Edit: just make sure that you dont “actively” choose the delivery option that leaves your package outside. If you “gave permission” by choosing that, then tough luck for you.

I just pick packages up from my local posti k-market. Why leave packages at doorsteps?
Desperate people do desperate shit to make money no matter the matter the country.
This is not a service, this is posti trying to reduce workload on their end which reduces their costs. This article will open up the idea to people taking parcels, let’s tell the crims of a new crime.

Finally, been waiting for this for a while. I’m not worried about stealing in my neighborhood (if it’s not a bike).
finland hopes to become as american as possible and it involves this ofc
Budbee left the package infront of my door and sent photo. Our kitchen is next to front door with a window and I was working there whole evening. So they didn’t even ring the door bell.
Business run by introverts?
Yarr! Plunder me some packages!
Many delivery services are already doing that. I would almost welcome porch pirates to try and take stuff. Most of the time I am in my home office on the ground floor 6 meters away from the front door and with a clear view of it. If anyone attempts to steal a box containing two ten liter boxes of cat sand, I will probably not directly intervene. It will be too much fun seeing them struggle. They won’t get much of a head start.
Whenever I have ordered anything it has gone to the post in the nearest supermarket. Most of the time if I ordered anything to my door they required me to be there to recieve it. And ofcourse they would only arrive between 8am to 4pm when everyone is at work.
I would be happy to use this service specially if it costs less. Of course it is heavily dependent on the type of house you live. But once again the tabloids made news from one person’s anecdote, meanwhile Posti have been succesfully piloting this with happy customers.
I don’t think this is much of problem at least as things are now. Surely if someone wants to steal shit they’ll just go to a self-checkout store. If you’re stealing random deliveries they’d probably be useless to you and low in resell value almost everytime. And if you’re just going in to random peoples yards you’ll have 3 kyylä mummos calling the cops on you in minutes. The guard which many stores don’t even have won’t even notice you unless you look like a drunk hobo as he’s too busy flirting with the cashier.
Really depends on where you live.
In my previous apartment, I was the first door after front door, so there it might get nabbed. Where I live now I am the furthest at the top most floor, so if someone is going to steal a package it will be someone the it would have to be someone who lives here.
Oh, sorry went with first national. Wrong sub for that.
Meant to say that this would not be a problem if there was no-one desperate enough to gain from stealing the packets, and we knew our neighbours well enough that most of the others could easily be caught. Maybe higher gas price would make it possible to do this once you get outside of biking distance from town centres.
Potential solutions? Could we legally make trap boxes for potential thieves? Is surveillance cameras invasion of privacy a worthy trade? Should we require all new or renovated buildings to have outer door openable with a single use key code (that you can attach to delivery information) before the actual door to living spaces. This would mean there is always record of the packet delivery from the code use, in case the packet goes missing, and it would be stored between two locked doors between the delivery and receiving it.
This is why you order to your nearest pakettiautomaatti, never to your home.
Posti has never been reliable.
Yeah, there was a very butthurt person interviewed, who received one of these packages. Someone chose to send it and use this service. Package wasn’t stolen. Person was badly butthurt.
