These people *want* to be martyrs and it’s entirely likely they’re provoking and intimidating our institutions out of their religious extremism; they are choosing to be obstructionist and defy the baseline social contract the rest of us live by. We now have *two* Burkes taking up space in an already vastly over-capacity Prison Service.

      I don’t even know what we’re supposed to do with family & individuals who are wilfully ignoring every single reasonable ask to step down from their sense of religious entitlement.

      Believe it or not, I actually attended university (in Galway) during when one of the sons of this family did too – though I can’t remember precisely what his name was.

      And unsurprisingly, he campaigned for student union president under a conservative agenda with the mindset of “Stop the persecution of Christians” or something like that.

      When it came to voting, I chose him as the dead last candidate in order of preference so I’m guessing he didn’t do too well.
