Shame that the title of first female Ceann Comhairle went to such a gobshite.

Varadkar has nothing to do with this.
Political pantomime.
Has no one told you politicians lie.
I know that having a Ceann Comhairle is a necessity but isn’t actively seeking the job a bit of a kick in the teeth to the people who put you in the Dáil. It’s telling them you’ll be doing nothing for them for the next 5 years and being guaranteed re-election at the end of it.
They opened a new bridge in Wexford at the start of lockdown. Varadkar and Murphy both attended and the joke going around was that Leo was doing his best to avoid the veronavirus.
