Is Trump foreign policy only based on threatening and imposing stuff on other countries?

    2. SevenNites on

      >Trump: “Well, I think we have a lot of foes”

      >“I think the European Union is a foe, what they do to us in trade. Now you wouldn’t think of the European Union but they’re a foe.”

    3. TheGreenPepper on

3 cm to the right and we would all have been fine now, talk about butterfly effect.

    4. kissja74 on

So the EU countries will buy again Russian oil and gas directly (what they’re doing now via India)…

    5. OkSituation4586 on

Essentially, he is just repeating the initial suggestion of the eu.
If it means the eu avoiding tariffs, then this isn’t exactly terrible.

    6. bosgeest on

Didn’t we already switch to buying oil and gas from the USA (instead of Russia)? Does he want us to buy more than we need?

    7. WTF is he going on about. EU is already buying enormous amounts of LNG from the US, and their LNG export revenues har surged many times over, their profits are through the roof.

Feels like everyone is getting dumber and more lunatic. Like who tf unironically support a retard like Trump. Same in Europe with the most braindead populist Le anti-woke parties with the most retarded takes and leaders gaining popularity. I think the old mainstream leftists politicians had a lot of issues they didn’t bother to address but now it’s a free fall into idocracy everywhere.

Europe – can’t buy Russia oil and gas will not be able to get USA oil and gas…. Maybe it’s time to be self sufficient – generate own power with nuclear and renewables and be free of intimidation blackmail and threats and price instability

Trump genuinely thinks trade deficits are subsidies. I’ve held my disbelief for a while but he’s repeatedly said it. He thinks America is subsidizing the whole world. This is (part of the) worldview he bases his foreign policy on.

As a European i say we take the hit. No more holidays in the next five years. Make sure Trump only looks like a fool and dont give in to his threats. Mass weapons to scare of Russians and China for the next 20 years.

Rather no holidays and safety than live now and risk all out war later.

hes shooting the us economy in the knee with that moves… omg

    13. sharkism on

He does realize that makes gas in the US more expensive, right?

    14. capta1nobvi0us on

      So many questions.

Is he under the impression that Europe doesn’t want to buy oil and gas? Such a weird threat

Who needs enemies when you’ve got friends like this

And soon EU will be forced to buy chlorinated chicken and beef and other American foods with no food safety standards and high level of sugar/corn syrup.

If EU bends to Trump’s shenanigans in the next 4 years there will only be a concept of EU leftover.

    17. Pavlo_Bohdan on

Oh no, I hope EU won’t keep buying Russian oil!!! (Sarcasm, it’s long overdue)

    18. Our answer should be to protect vital Democratic institutions by making our own operating systems, office software, social media networks… A lot of the US’s economic growth comes from tech monopolies, that do not need to be monopolies as their technology is easily copyable

    19. 0pumpkin on

Hey, mister… This is not how it works. This is not how any of it works.

    20. He should ask Xi how well their economy is doing after alienating foreign businesses.

    21. I wish Europe could de-couple from the USA as much as possible.

    22. Schwartzy94 on

Time to europe to unite and produce as much locally if possible.

    23. Let’s take the punch and see. Mf thinks he is the chosen one. It’s fascinating that a country with 335m people decided that this retard will be their president. Just listen to him for a second, that’s the behaviour of mentally ill person.

Trump: Either you buy more or our oil and LNG and raise prices for US consumers, or we will retaliate by raising prices on US consumers

This is what US voted for. Lovely.

It is dangerous to be a US enemy, but it is fatal to be a US ally., Henry Kissinger

    26. HonestBid2148 on

Great tactic to pick on the allies, while Russia and China are strengthening ties! Excellent move <3

    27. SlothySundaySession on

I don’t the problem, the last bloke you bought it from well..

    28. Weekly_Taste1243 on

Well if we aren’t going to support our allies but buy cheap oil elsewhere, I’d expect to be tarrifed. It’s a two way street.

    29. Tanckers on

      Eu going renewable

Trump: buy my oil or else

buddy you didnt really understand the game, did you

Trump is irrelevant, Musk and the other oligarchs are in charge. They are not even hiding it anymore.

    31. We have never had to deal with a US that has acted with threats and ultimatums.

US decided to write and impose post WWII the international commercial trading laws with the emphasis that any conflict must be resolved through diplomatic negotiations and never war, and they put their navy and military as a world police and for that we had a 70+ years of relative world peace.

With that in mind and ditching the gold standard, US became an empire and nobody was mad about it, or at least in the western developed nations, because it was an empire that for the first time had no territorial claims, even though they engaged in destabilizing less developed countries.

What Trump is doing it’s unprecedented, not in terms of protectionism but rather retaliatory actions, along with calling Canada it’s 51 State.
