“You will often find that religion is hijacked by groups for their own purposes………..”

      I mean, he’d know I guess.

Why didn’t he use the bishops correct title “primate” and this guy Martin has been in the job for ten years and not been made a cardinal. What did he do to piss Rome off

They should just move him to another parish. Problem solved.

    10. I was sure McGregor was an atheist.

Aw shit! He’s going to start grifting now. Isn’t he?

Fuck me I didn’t think there was any way I’d ever be on McGregor’s side of any argument but here we are.

Cocaine McGregor the rapist scum is now fighting with the book club lunatics on who can claim the bigger scum title…

    13. McGreggor is just following the same path as most of the American right wing. His audience is over there, not here —hence the Trump-Jesus stuff …

The church isn’t exactly in a strong position itself given the organisation’s utterly abysmal history on standing up for women’s rights, abuse cover ups and so many other things, but I can see why they want to distance themselves from the likes of this.

I think though the Christian communities, including the Catholic Church, are just going to find themselves perceived to be on the far right side of the culture wars, as the loudest religious voices are all now ultra conservative online Americans and MAGA types, including amongst the Catholic communities. If anything it will just hasten their decline into irrelevance.

I’m mad at the church for hijacking paganism

More pointless thoughts out loud at 6:01

The entire point of Jesus was that he broke bread with those castigated by his society.

Meanwhile the Catholic Church made it its mission statement to punish and castigate those it disliked for arbitrary reasons in its society.

Both of them are hijacking Christianity for their own agendas. One has been doing it for far far longer and to far far more disastrous consequences.

McGregor became outly religious a few years back when news of the SA cases got out originally. I think it’s a mix between getting gullible people to like you and he probably entered some 12 step program a while ago (and failed miserably, obviously)
