Aw…may we all eat a Ukrainian dish in peace this Christmas.

Small corrections: uzvar is boiled for circa 20-30 minutes, not seconds. And the number of traditional dishes could be anything from 3 to 12, depending on the region, etc. The recipe of kutja also mutates a bit from place to place.

I absolutely love kutia. I get excited every year around this time to make huge bowls of kutia and inhale it in minutes. My wife’s recipe involves mashing poppy seeds, mixing them with hot water, and adding in boiled wheat pearls, nuts and honey. It is divine.

I would like to add. Making kutya not on Christmas Eve is sacrilege. Don’t do it, you will be cursed, your children will not know happiness, your grandchildren will look at the sky with empty eyes, your cities will be covered with a fog of sadness and cold silence. If you make kutya not on Christmas Eve, you will ask for the end until the end of time, and the emptiness will be so eternal that the only thing you will be able to remember will be sadness and despair.

      Marry Christmas
