Gotta love it when their own drones try to take out the attack aircraft. To bad it didn’t do more damage, darn it.
This reminds me a bit of the Russians’ air combat tactics from the first part of Operation Barbarossa.
In those stages, [Russian fighter pilots quickly realized that their planes (mainly I-15 and I-16 with some LaGG-3s) were so inferior and under-armed compared to their German counterparts](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aerial_ramming#Soviet_Union) that deliberately ramming the Luftwaffe attackers became quite acceptable despite the simultaneous recognition of the high personal risk to quite valuable and skilled personnel (i.e. fighter pilots).
As the Russians slowly got their ѕhіt together and began to re-equip with more capable aircraft fitted with suitable armament and radios starting in early 1943, be it the native Lavochkin and Yakovlev fighters or the Lend-Lease P-39s from the US, the acceptability of and need for ramming German planes quickly and naturally faded excepting in instances of utter desperation. Not even the Russians want to waste manpower – especially when talking about pilots rather than illiterate conscripts on the ground egged-on by barrier troops.
Anyway, history doesn’t repeat, but it sure does rhyme.
Didn’t they get an SU 25 recently? Back to square one.
