“Don’t you understand that Poland and Israel have the same enemies?” writes the well-known Republican politician and foreign policy expert Clifford D. May in an open letter to Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski. The letter was published yesterday in the conservative daily “Washington Times”.

A few days ago, in an interview for “Rzeczpospolita”, Deputy Foreign Minister Władysław Teofil Bartoszewski suggested that Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu should not come to Poland to commemorate the anniversary of the liberation of the German death camp Auschwitz, because he could be arrested on the basis of an order of the International Criminal Court (ICC). Bartoszewski’s statement caused huge outrage in the US and Israel. The Israeli delegation to the commemorations on January 27 will probably be headed by one of the Israeli ministers.

May, who is sure to be an influential voice on foreign policy in a Trump administration, writes to Sikorski: “As you well know, Vladimir Putin wants to make Ukrainians subjects of the Russian empire…. Another free nation under attack is, of course, Israel. Iran’s ruler, Ali Khamenei, wants to exterminate the Israelis and annex their lands to an Islamic empire…. The incoming Trump administration will be the most pro-Israel in history — as will the Republican-controlled House and Senate. European antipathy to Israel is one reason some Republicans are advising President-elect Donald Trump to leave Ukraine’s rescue to the European Union.” The author of the letter cites three reasons why Poland should not, in his opinion, comply with the ICC’s provisions:

“First, the arrest warrants for Mr. Netanyahu were issued by ICC Prosecutor Karim Asad Ahmad Khan based on disinformation that he was happy to receive from Hamas and other terrorist proxies of Iran.

This might be very niche, but does anyone here have links to English translations of anything written by Jerzy Giedroyc? In particular articles about what Polish foreign policy should be after the Soviet Union collapsed?

I don’t agree with what Israel is doing on Gaza but the court is a joke

I wish our friends in Poland would publicly humiliate these American politicians and absolutely trash them. Talk about AIPAC and the inability of America to stick to its stated values when it comes to Israel

    6. Oh fuck the reps, shit ton of israelis are of russian origin, and still pro putler. Current ambassador is a example. One of the few things that were good from prl was that we recognized palestinian too. I don’t like the court because assad was also able to fuck them, but we shouldn’t repeat a problem like mongolia did when putler went there.

When the US learns to rein in NATO member Hungary then we can take their other suggestions seriously.

USA threatens their biggest supporter in the EU.

      Yeah, that makes sense.

If he’s innocent he should face the charges, no one is going to prosecute innocent man. It’s not Israel

      > “European antipathy to Israel is one reason some Republicans are advising President-elect Donald Trump to leave Ukraine’s rescue to the European Union.”

This is the leverage he is putting behind this letter. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely think Poland should adhere to the ICC ruling and arrest Netanyahu if he’s coming to Poland. But the new administration of the USA is so unpredictable and enormously isolationist that you do have to prepare for the worst.

Looks like that famous american “rule of law” and international rules, they love to use. Against everyone else they don;t like. If they want to destroy the very system , which build their international position, to appease one leader from not even official allied country, they are ever more loonatic, than we expected

The priority must always remain Ukraine, which is essential to our security, not Israel or Palestine.

Any international court that gives Bibi an arrest warrant but allows Assad to walk around free is not worth listening to
