Never had so many people working for governments…
So yay jobs, but actually nothing net value adding…
If you stop looking for a job you dont count as unemployed, young people completely giving up hope also reduced unemployment 👍🏻

Not in Finland. 9% unemployment.
Unemployment is nice but the issue is performance. Lacking behind in performance per workforce stagnates the economy and thats the issue Eu is facing amongst the other geopolitical and aging of the boomer generation.
Edit: I am not talking about extracting most value for minimum labour but general performance due to slower economic growth albeit high employment.

Shifting young people around from the job-scarce G~~lobal~~ South to the job-abundant ~~postcolonialist~~ West reminds me of those videos where people use instant noodles as a filler to repair tables, car panels….porcelain bathroom sinks lmao
Short term it works well for everyone, both governments get to present ‘improved’ statistics, the young person isnt wasting away as an unpaid intern assisting at a banana stand for tourists or w/e
long term its dogshit for everyone, for a list of reasons that are too long
The South needs an economic revival that isnt chasing more tourists, it needs a services and industrial revolution to create proper jobs, it starts with clearing out their useless political class.

How about the growth in precarious work? The rise of uber and other self employment platforms have reduced unemployment, but a lot of these workers have lost the right to sick leave, vacations, unemployments benefits, etc… Zero hour contracts are also very prominent, which is not really stable employment.
