So are Spanish people if you count social clubs, but that’s really legal as it’s permitted in private weed and cigar clubs.

Fun fact: “Smoking” is actually a Greek word in origin. It comes from smokinos, which means “lung cancer” in ancient Greek.

It’s like half the Dutch not washing their hands after using the toilet, culture

    4. Wasn’t there a Greek minister that lit up a cigarette inside at a health conference a few years back?

More inspections and sanctions for those establishments that allow it, and in less than a year everything will be fixed.

The way to reduce smoking is not just straight-up ban it before the country is ready, from a social perspective. All you end up doing is completely destroy the entertainment industry.

My town had 3 nightclubs, dozens of restaurants and even more cafes. In the 10 years or so since smoking was banned all 3 nightclubs disappeared. They were replaced by a single club-by-night-restaurant-by-day kind of place. A few other restaurants went bust but the worst affected ones were the cafes.

The result? The same amount of people smoke today that did 10 years ago.

The Greeks know what’s up. You don’t just ban it. You run a 20+ year educational campaign, you continuously encourage people to stop smoking, you raise the taxes on tobacco again and again, you do everything possible for people to stop smoking, instead of just banning it and ruining your number one income source – tourism from countries who also smoke like a chimney.

In other words – a smoker will stop going out rather than go out to a place where you can’t smoke outside. There’s no point in having a coffee without a smoke. The smoke IS the reason why you go out in the first place.

It’s a disease, I know. Try banning alcohol instead, see how that goes.

Maybe Greeks smoke more because they’re thinking, ‘Why bother living long when retirement benefits are as mythical as Zeus?’ At least the cigarette packs don’t run out of funding!

Looks like we need another lock-down in Greece to show them they can live without smoking in a café, restaurant or club and keep it at home or outdoors.

Greeks are as infuriating as a piece of popcorn stuck between the teeth ay as stubborn as mules.

      Source? I’m Greek.

I smoke, and I used to like smoking inside bars, when it was ok. But after the ban, me and all my friends who smoke found this great thing. Because you still can smoke outside, but your clothes don’t smell like shit after this night. And your head hurts less

I am way more in favour of a system where they outlaw smoking from a certain age group. For example: for everyone born after 2006 it’s no longer possible to buy cigarettes. This way you outphase it, whilst keeping the inconvenience to a minimum.

    12. Banning indoor smoking was the best legislation my country gave in 20years, i absolutely despised goind at a party or restaurant where i could barely see from the smoke.

I also smelled like smoked death afterward, even my freakin skin was reeking…

It is beyond me how that was allowed for so damn long…

In Italy smoking inside public places was banned almost 20 years ago. Best thing they could do, since then drinking a beer doesn’t taste like shit.

    14. Fck smoking.
Breathing is a must. Smoking is a choice.
I didn’t choose smoking so fck away from me.
