**Belgium to Ban Disposable Vapes Starting January 1**

Belgium will ban the sale of disposable e-cigarettes beginning January 1, citing concerns for health and the environment. Health Minister Frank Vandenbroucke highlighted the role of these devices in attracting teenagers to nicotine addiction, calling them “a health threat.”

The ban also aims to address environmental issues, as disposable vapes contribute to hazardous waste due to their non-recyclable plastic, batteries, and electronic components.

This ban will not affect reusable e-cigarettes, which may help people quit smoking. Belgium will be the first country in the European Union to implement such a prohibition, and Vandenbroucke is urging the European Commission to update tobacco regulations across the EU.

The decision has received some support from the vaping industry, as shop owners have pointed out the pollution caused by non-rechargeable batteries and suggested a transition to refillable systems as a viable alternative. Similar legislation is under consideration in Ireland, following Australia’s strict vaping restrictions.
