**British Transport Police Faces Legal Action Over Transgender Search Policy**

The British Transport Police (BTP) is facing a lawsuit from women’s rights campaigners regarding its guidance that allows transgender officers with a Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC) to strip-search women. Critics argue that this policy infringes upon women’s human rights and exposes them to “undignified and humiliating treatment.”

According to the policy, the gender of the searcher is determined by their GRC. This has sparked significant backlash, with the human rights charity Sex Matters seeking a judicial review. Campaigners claim that this practice permits male-born officers who identify as female to conduct searches on women, which undermines established safeguards designed to protect individuals from being searched by officers of the opposite sex.

This situation follows the withdrawal of a similar policy from the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) in 2024 after extensive criticism. Nevertheless, the BTP insists that its GRC safeguards are robust and that its policy does not put women at undue risk.

Activists are leading the legal challenge, with support from individuals like retired police superintendent Cathy Larkman. They aim to overturn the guidance, arguing that it violates fundamental human rights. A judicial review is underway, and the BTP has declined to comment further due to the ongoing legal proceedings.

If I was being strip searched (prolly gonna feel uncomfortable just bc it is a search) don’t think I’d care if it was a cis man or a trans man and to be clear I mean a trans man who is legally recognised as man, ie gone through the entire process etc. Note I am a cis male
