Idk, but if Migros needs money desperately and cutting the prices is not an option, they could just try to figure out what reasons besides the cheaper prices make “Shopping Tourists” buy stuff abroad.

I couldnt care less about the price when I buy stuff across the border, for me it’s purely the selection. Walking into a large Migros is like walking to the swiss backrooms. Every shelve carries the exact same thing, just in a different packaging. We have 6 different types of potato chips from (allegedly) the same factory with various migros/coop brands that have the same stale taste, and then theres a one from a brand that’s thrice the price and slightly better. Obviously I am exaggerating here, but there is no real selection. Their whole selection is pretty much like Rice. It’s the same thing in different packaging, for aisles and aisles.

The reduction from 300CHF to 150CHF was a ridicuous measure. This does not “hurt” the people that buy stuff across the border on a weekly basis, this hurts tourists that bring stuff from their holidays back home. A “shopping tourist” could easily feed 3-4 mouths for a week without reaching the 150CHF limit, if you plan ahead smart, you can go two weeks or more. Even if you reach the limit you can just go again tomorrow or three days later.

It’s kinda desperate to cry out for more taxes if your company doesnt bring the right numbers. If you want to stay profitable in a competitive market, you have to be competitive, and if you cant compete with the price, then make sure you find another way. The government should not enact taxes because a businessman asks for it, because they want more and more. Work for your growth, Migros is already more profitable in 2024 than it was in 2023 as the article states.

The government better not tax us more to make the dick-measurement contest between Migros and Coop continue:

I find is hilarious that people complain about companies offshoring jobs, but at the same time have no issues shopping in France and Germany using their swiss salaries but paying EU prices. Hypocrites.

Does this turd understand that we pay the same grocery prices in Ticino as in Zurich but with a higher tax rate, higher medical insurance costs, and 30% lower salaries? Because for a large number of my friends, it’s not “shopping tourism”, it’s survival. He might, but he certainly wouldn’t care.
